Calculation based on the current German Court Costs Act (GKG, as of 2025)
Before an enforceable title is obtained, creditors often need to go through the judicial dunning procedure. This process involves fees that vary depending on the amount in dispute. If you want to know what costs to expect, you’ll find all relevant information here – clearly explained and calculated in accordance with the law.
What are court fees?
Court fees are statutory charges that arise within the judicial dunning procedure. They are incurred when applying for an order for payment and also include the subsequent application for an enforcement order.
Typical components include:
Basic fee for the order for payment
Additional fees if an objection or appeal is filed
The exact amount depends on the value of the claim. Our calculator helps you determine all relevant fees transparently and up to date based on the German Court Costs Act (GKG, as of 2025). For claims of up to €1,000, the current fee is €38.
Do I have to pay court fees?
Yes, as a creditor, you must initially pay the court fees yourself. They are a prerequisite for your application to be processed by the court. If your claim is justified and the debtor is in default, you can later recover these costs from the debtor as damages for delay.
For more information on the process, see our guide to the judicial dunning procedure.

Frequently asked questions and answers on commissioning debt collection
When do court fees arise?
Court fees are incurred when you file an application for a dunning notice. These fees also cover the subsequent enforcement notice, which does not incur any separate additional charges. However, you must still apply for it separately once the objection period has expired. The court will not process your application unless the fee has been paid.
